Cooking with My 5 year old

So this evenings adventure in cooking with my 5 year old took us on a journey to making Panko fried chicken.

We used Chicken of course! Panko Bread crumbs, A Mixture of Canola and Olive Oil, Flour Eggs and Some Stubbs BBQ seasoning {not pictured}

Miss O has a great fascination with cooking and I love having a little helper in the kitchen most of the time. Unless I am rushed to get things done then I need her out of the way. Then those are usually the days she gets mad and refuses to eat...

You will see random black dots those are to cover my little girls undies. No need to show her panties on the internet. Of course it would have been easier to just make her change but she wanted to be in her princess jammies so she can in her words Cook Comfy. haha

And you might notice that my pics have the website on them. Well I must take such awesome photos that people have been deciding to come on here and snag them and claim them as their own. So watermarked it will be from now on! Ok now for the steps  that we took!

Step One: I usually make this with 4 chicken breasts when its just the kids and I.

Then I cut each breast into 3-4 pieces.

Step Two- This is what has perfected my Panko Fried chicken!

I place each piece under two pieces of wax paper

Step 3- Then we use a Meat tenderizer and Thin the pieces out till they are about  1/2 inch thick

This is the finished product of thinning it --->

Step 4- 3 eggs, milk, pepper and Stubbs BBQ seasoning in a bowl and wisk till mixed well

Miss O Wisking those eggs!

Step 5- Mix about 1.5 cups flour pepper and Stubbs seasoning as much as you want. I really dont measure...lol

Mix Well

Step 6 & 7- Get Oil in WOK or deep pain heating on Med-high and Pour Panko into big enough container to bread chicken

So now that we are set up its time to start preping and cooking the chicken.

The Set up.

Chicken into flour
Flour into egg
Egg into Panko
Chicken into hot oil :)

Remember to Coat both sides of the chicken :)

Coating with Flour first helps the egg stick which makes the panko stick :)

We were done coating a little faster than the oil heating so we just placed them on a plate.

How I am typing this out is exactly how I talked to Miss O during the process. For the next step she was told to move over to the far end of the counter so Oil didnt splash on her and she just had to watch them cook from a distance.

Into the hot bubbling oil

Since I think my chicken out they cook for 4-5 minutes on each side with no more than 3-4 pieces in my WOK at a time.

And now here is the final product!

They come out moist and juicy EVERY single time doing it like this! Miss O loves Fried chicken nights. although she wishes they would happen more but momma is only allowed fried chicken once a month! When they are on the paper towel I sprinkle alittle sea salt over them :)

SO thats how we spent this adventure of cooking with my 5 year old today. Im thinking of making this a regular post once a week. Idk What do you think?
